Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started as an TV reporter and radio reporter within Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was General Correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Since 1981 she began to report on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief congressional reporter. She was named Chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has been in the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was the previous chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for outstanding achievement in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in The White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories, including the Iran-contra affair and budget tax reform. She traveled with Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to summits around the world and covered extensively.
